Below you will find samples of my design related projects, course materials from lighting classes, and other relevant undertakings.
Sleep Deprivation Chamber
Sleep Deprivation Chamber, produced by the OSU's Department of Theatre in Spring, 2002, was a piece focused on the use of technology and multimedia integration in performance. I was fortunate to be asked to serve as the production Moving Light Programmer. The use of intelligent fixtures greatly enhanced the dramatic effect of the performance, and contributed immeasurably to the value of the work. Although my capacity on this piece was not a design one, it relied on umerous creative methods of problem solving and liberty with respect to the development of special effects. Feel free to explore in greater detail my involvement with this production by viewing quicktime movies, still images, cue sequences and conceptual drawings from throughout the process.
Digital and Physical Lighting − Winter 2002
Digital and Physical Lighting was an intensive study in the manipulation of both physical and digital spaces through the use of light. Projects included recreation of still life(s) in real/virtual environments, orchestration of light cue sequences based on genre, and a final mixed-media installation.
- Physical Lighting of Objects
- Application of various physical lighting fixtures to a still life composition for the creation of a sequence of lighting
moments.

- Use of digital lighting to study monochromatic lighting schemes. Focus on composition, lighting style and quality to communicate time of
day.
View Project Page - Physical Lighting of an Interior
- Study of the progression of light over time in a non−changing physical environment. Design approach derived from an understanding and application of film style.

- Consideration of both still life and environment: Application of lighting and shading to a pre-determined digital space over a timeline. Utilization of cinematic genre in design strategy.

- Creation of an art installation that illustrates the mood, timing, text and situation of a given haiku.

Lighting of Scenic Backdrops − Spring 2002
Using new moving light technology as well as conventional fixtures to treat scenic backdrops: both painted and otherwise, in theatrical applications. Focus on the manipulation of transparency through lighting effects. Projects included the recreation of traditional artwork with a combination of light and paint, creating a moving canvas, and orchestrating a scene with sound and light.
- Painting with Light
- Exploration into the use of light as a surrogate “pigment on canvas” using automated fixtures on a cyclorama.
View Project Page - Representation of Existing art with Light
- Attempt to recreate with light an established piece of modern two-dimensional artwork. Focus on producing the nuance and mood of the original artwork. View Project Page
- Orchestration of a Scene
- Effectively use lighting to create a unique visual interpretation of a provided painting and convey to the audience a new perspective by combining several viewpoints and types of media.

This class involved several theoretical projects designing lights for opera and musical theatre contexts, and a final project of lighting a sculpture to music.
- Sculpture Project
- This project involved the creation of a lighting composition to support and enhance a provided soundtrack and sculpture. A highly detailed and complex cue sequence was orchestrated around the object.
