Physical Lighting of Objects
This project consisted of a series of group exercises exploring and manipulating the following properties of physical light:
- Intensity
- Color
- Shape
- Texture
- Beam Quality
- Movement
- Direction
Project Date 01/17/2002 Project Description Apply various physical lighting fixture choices to a still life composition to create a sequence of lighting moments. Emphasis is placed on the properties of physical light and lighting design approaches.
Project Guidelines Each group is assigned a similar yet unique still life composition, consisting of a range of objects situated on a table, placed above a floor treatment.Using a variety of spotlights, floodlights, and ”texture” lights, demonstrate:
- each of the seven properties of light as discussed in class,
- one of the lighting approaches used frequently in design practice
Map out a light cue sequence that illustrates each aspect, with the goal of presenting a dynamic demonstration. Record the sequence as a series of follow cues, programmed into Studio Theatre's Express Console. The total cue sequence length may not exceed 2 minutes.
